The 2008 Gift Of Giving Food Drive collects food commodities, food products, nonalcoholic beverages and toiletries, which support The Gift Of Giving Feed The Hungry Program. The program help feed many families in metropolitan Detroit, Michigan, including Wayne, Monroe, Macomb and Oakland counties.
This year for 2008, our organization will be providing food boxes for over 1000 economically disadvantaged families each month for the year of 2008. Without your support, these needy disadvantaged families will not have food to feed themselves or their children. In metropolitan Detroit, Michigan alone 93% of households lives at or below the poverty rate. Our goal is to provide food for these needy families and help eliminate hunger in America and southeastern Michigan.
Our program will also provide food for homeless single mothers with children and homeless single mothers with children leavning out of domestic violence situations, while residing in The Gift Of A Helping Hand Emergency Shelter. Sixty percent of the homeless population is single mothers with children and 0.4% of the cases are domestic violence cases of single mothers with children. 38% of the hungry population in Detroit, Michigan are children.
One out of every 10 Americans faces hunger, and every dollar helps. One million individuals in Michigan will need food assistance. We do not want another innocence child to go to bed hunger, since one out of every six child do every night. Millions of Americans rely on emergency food services or go hungry and almost half are children.
