2006 through 2010 Gift Of Giving Toy Drive is a seasonal project implemented to provide needy children in the state of Michigan with new toys to be placed under their Christmas tree during the holidays. The Gift Of Giving Toy Drive collects new toys annually and help support The Gift Of Giving New Toys For Needy Children Program.
The toy drive is collecting video consoles, video games and hand held video games to help support the 2008 Gift Of Giving Toy Drive. Over 30,000 children under 18 years old will go without a Christmas this year without your support. The program mission is to give underprivileged and underserved children the opportunity to receive new toys on Christmas Day, since 93% of households in metropolitan Detroit, Michigan lives at or below the poverty-rate, 48% of the poverty-stricken in Wayne county, Michigan is children.
This year for 2008 our organization will be providing new toys for over 3000 economically disadvantaged children this year. The program will serve 24% of homeless children residing in The Gift Of A Helping Hand Emergency Shelter and other homeless shelter throughout metropolitan Detroit, Michigan and other Wayne counties. At least 60% of the homeless population is single mothers with children and 0.4% of the homeless population is single mothers with children leaving out of domestic violence situations. 38% of the hungry population in Detroit, Michigan are children.
